What is mayhem?
Mayhem is defined as a battery that includes the intentional amputation or disfigurement of a bodily part or a disablement of the victim. For example, it would be mayhem to bite off someone's finger during a bar fight or to shatter someone's  kneecaps with a baseball bat. Most states do not treat mayhem as a separate offense, but consider it a form of aggravated battery.
