What is incest?
Incest refers to sexual abuse of a child by a family member, with or without force. This is a form of rape or statutory rape. For example, if a father or uncle has sex with a daughter or niece, this would be incest. If the child is under the age of consent in the state, this would also be statutory rape. If the adult threatens the child with punishment or death if he/she tells, this would be rape. Incest also refers to sexual relations between two people who are too closely related under the laws of the state to have sexual relations. For example, in many states sexual activity between first cousins would be considered incest.
