I let my girlfriend move in with me a year ago. It's been kinda rocky since then, because she uses cocaine. I think she is responsible for many missing valuables. Last week she had me arrested for ‘assaulting’ her. She said I pushed her, but it never happened. Now she has my apartment, my furniture and all my stuff and i'm under a court order to stay away for her and from my home. My lawyer says I should take a plea to avoid jail. I'm open to any suggestions. |

| Assuming everything is true, you are in for a rough ride, but do not give in. Get a lawyer who believes you and fight it. A conviction like this can ruin your name and your career. What is happening to you is rare, but not unheard of. After a couple of centuries of ignoring brutality against women, American law has awakened to the issue and has enacted many protections for women. Those laws can be brutally unfair if a criminally minded opportunist knows how to manipulate those laws for reasons of spite, profit, revenge, or mental illness. |
