What is aggravated battery? |

Aggravated battery is a more serious form of battery, and is often a felony, while simple battery is often a misdemeanor. The definition of aggravated battery varies by state, but the acts most often include:
- Battery in which serious bodily injury occurs or there is an intent to cause serious bodily harm;
- Battery involving a hate crime; and
- Battery against a police officer or a vulnerable person, such as a child or an elderly person.
